For roontlrs. past daily comment of many ship/gin jf pooplo throughout tho Com? nionwoalth and Nbw Zoaland ha 3 been tho •delay ofC vessels loading coal at Newcastle, mora especially from charterers and- owner* o£' sailing- vessels. In some cases tho sailers there had- long* detentions, being iu port fron*. October to January, while, it has been a commoit occurrence for many of the big> American wooden .vessels .to. be- in port fbrover fifty days, and tho masters, of these vessels worrying how- their yes3ol would, far© at sea, aft«r such n. long delay, During-tho lasts few weeks, however (particularly- owing! to the? strike), sailing* v.essols have? rec-sived bettor despatch, and; last w«e!t the Seaham Coal Co. completed; loading tba big American fire-masted barqucntino Forest Dream with coal for Port Allen, after the v*ss»l had been- in port for only a. week, which is- a. striking- contrast to tho- same company's v«svel Fore-st Pridei which -was in port for fifty day a. If* colliery-proprietors and agents were-, free from Government interference, Newcastle would once- again command her great, overseas business. wh;ch would mean greater revenue for the Government, and more, prosperity for tho people.—"Sydney Shipping List."
