FATAL FIRE IN WELLINGTON.
ELDERLY MAN SUFFOCATED. (press association teleokam.) WELLINGTON, April 5. A fire attended by fatal results occurred in Anna lane, Wellington, tonight. When the brigade responded to the call they found the interior of a four-roomed house burning. Charles Mitchell, aged 68, who lived in the house with his son, was suffocated. The body was partially burnt before it waß recovered. The son was absent at the time. The fire originated in a bedroom. -Gallant efforts were made to enter the room, but the heat was too intense and the Bmoke too thick. Mitchell formerlv was employed on the wharf by the Union Steam Ship Company. The efforts of the brigade confined the fire to the one house, though others were serioosly threatened.
