CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MEETING-OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Conned of'the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce* was held on Monday evening, Mr W. M. Tyers (president) being in the chair.' The Industrial Association and Department of Industries .and Commerce forwarded cony of resolutions of the ninth congress of Chambers of» Commerce, 'held at Toronto in September last, with reference to the dovelopineni of the resources of the Empire. The resolutions wero referred to tho special meeting of the Council. Tho Department of Industries and Commerce forwarded copy of resolutions regarding shipping matters passed at tho ninth congress, copies of which it was decided to"supply to members of tho Council. The General Manager of Railways •wrote that tho suggestion that the District Traffic Manager he a member of tke Citizens' Committee in connexion with railway transport had been agreed; to.

The New Zealand Welfare League wrote with reference to tho system of casual labour on wharves.—Received. Tho Progress Lerfguo forwarded copies of folder. advertising Canterbury, if. was decided to ask for a supply of copies. The League also wrote on the subject of tho diversion .of tho Harper river into Lake Coleridge, and a resolution was adopted supporting fhe action of tho League. A reports on want of trucks for receipt of cargo was received, and inferred to the Railways Sectional Commit tee.
