THE SECOND TEST MATCH. A WIN FOR AUSTRALIA. (PlhtSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, April i. Gloriouß weather prevailed for the resumption of the second test match at Eden Park bo-day. Tho wicket was wearing well. .The attendance at the outset was very meagw.
New Zealand, who had seven wickete down for 239 runs, did not last long, and were all out for 259 before the- luncheon Adjournment. They followed on, and fared even worse in their second venture, being -dismissed for only 177. ' Australia thus won by an innings and 227 runs. It was obvious from the outset that the Australians were out after a win, and their captain, Riinsford, kepi them hard at itTheir fielding was very fine. Wlhen the game was resumed this mornins *te. ' .°* tn © New Zealand team failed toehold up, and the innings was finished in 25 minutes with the total at 259. The question then became whether or not the Now Zealanders could be disposed of in four and a half hours when they followed on. Hiddleston and Blunt made a much better opening' than on Saturday, playing steady cricket for the first hour. Sixty-six mns were on the board when Blunt was caught at the wicket juslt ten minutes before the luncheon adjournment, which camo with 68 runs on for one wicket, Snedden being the newcomer. Blunt bad compiled a tatient and correct 25. while Hiddleston (40) had played attractively throughout. With this good star* it looted os if New Zealand might yet moke a drawn game of it. Rattray took six wickets and Griffin three The "Tourists" replied with 148 (Lawrence 65, Harris 32 not out). Major Baxter took six wickets (doing the "hat trick"), and Colonel Chisholm three wickets.

"The Times" *ays English cricketing circles have honestly "got the wind up" regarding the visit of Armstrong's formidable team. It believes that the MaryleVne Club ■will bo compelled to drastically reinforce the list of possible test playere, dropping several ancients and scouting throughout th© counties for new men. After reviewing the chances of a number of new men among the professionals, "The Times" says the possibilities, of Pry and Spooner re-entering the test field is being canvassed. If Spooner enters the tests he wrt; *«© a strong candidate for the English captaincy.
Experiments are to be made by the United States Navy Department for hurling seaplanes from the decks of ships at sea by means of catapults, says a Washington correspondent. This information was givenfto the HouseNaval Committee by Captain Craven, Director of Naval Aviation. He said that tests are being made at the Washington Navy Yard, where it is planned to shoot a seaplane from a catapult soon, to see if the plan is feasible. Attempts are also beinq: made to construct collapsible planes.
