Her passengers took to the lifeboats. Steamers are racing to their rescue. ' r Later.The West Hartland was rammed by the Governor; but is comparatively uninjured. iSho is standing by. The collision took place at midnight

in a fog. The -whole of the 270 passengers and crew of the Governor are believed to be safe in the ship's* boats. [The Governor was a well-known passenger steamer on. the Pacific Coast. She was a twin-screw vessel of 5475 tons gross register, built in 1907, and owned by the Admiral Lino (Pacific S.S. Co.), of Seattle. The West is a steamer of 6177 tons gross register, built .in 1919, and owned by the- United St'ate Shipping Board.l -
