AMERICAN STEAMER SUNK. (Br Cable—Press Association—CopyrigK.) (Australian and N.Z. Cab.e Association (Received' April Ist, 11.20 p.m.) .NEW YOIIK, April 1. The passenger steamer Governor of the Admiral Line, bound from San Francisco to Seattle, came intd collision wifcu the steamer West Hartland, from Vancouver to Bombay, off Port Townsend, Washington. ■The Governor sank in twenty-five minutes. Her passengers took to the lifeboats. Steamers are racing to their rescue. ' r Later.The West Hartland was rammed by the Governor; but is comparatively uninjured. iSho is standing by. The collision took place at midnight
in a fog. The -whole of the 270 passengers and crew of the Governor are believed to be safe in the ship's* boats. [The Governor was a well-known passenger steamer on. the Pacific Coast. She was a twin-screw vessel of 5475 tons gross register, built in 1907, and owned by the Admiral Lino (Pacific S.S. Co.), of Seattle. The West is a steamer of 6177 tons gross register, built .in 1919, and owned by the- United St'ate Shipping Board.l -
