The coal-mine owners have intimated to the Miners' Federation that they aro prepared to meet their representatives in conference to discuss the matter of a new agreement, but will not guarantee to commit themselves to a settlement on tlie six domands previously objected to by them, and which hav« ben described' as far-fotched. When the claims wero before the employers previously, they declined .lo agree «> a conference until these clauses- wero withdrawn. The mine-owners state that \ they cannot conceive of any argument which will modify their, decision that it is impossible to agree to tho six itemH referred to.
