There were nineteen vessels in port yester•day, fifteen of which were working. Trucks held out until late in- the afternoon,' when there was «• slight shortage. The Weitomo should commence, loading', oil Monday, and will free a large number oftrncko. . " The. auxiliary schooner feuia arrived .here yesterday morning, and after landing a. quantity of explosives, sailed at noon for Diinedin. The scow Echo, which left Blenheim on Saturday last, arrived here yesterday morningi. The little vessel encountered a southerly gale on the .way down, and 4 had to run before it, which accounts for her "protracted passage. The Echo, after, discharging a cargo of barley, will load general cargo for Blenheim and and' is to sail on Monday. The Paloona arrived here yesterday morning from Dunedin to discharge 600 tons of Melbourne, cargo., She will Bail for Welling-tonto-day. . ' ■ The Canopnsj .which was prevented from sailing on Thursday night by a shortage in tho stokehold staff, left yesterday afternoon for Westport." ■ The Oorinna arrived here .from Tiinani" yesterday morning, and, after taking in further ctTgo, sailed last night for Nelson and New Plymouth.. The Cygnet is now timed to leave here at midnight on Sunday for Kaikoura. The Biloela is to leave here to-day for Westport to load coal for the Australian Ad-; miralty. The Orepuki is due here to-morrow with a full cargo of timber from Greymouth. The Calm is due here from Wellington'this morning, and may get away thi» afternoonfor Dunedin and Timaru.
. The Katoa, which has 1200 tons to discharge here, will not get. away for Dunedin ■until Monday. Included .in her. Xjyttelton I cargo are 287 tons of etnjar, and also a quantity of invert, molasses, treacle, and syrup. The Storm arrived here from Timaru yesterday morning, and after an exchange of cargoes, sailed in the afternoon for Wanganui.
The Karori will finish her survey to-day, and is to s>il this afternoon for Greymouth. The Haines steamer Trelyon is to sail to-day for Timaru end Dunedin to continue discharge of her New York cargo. The Wakatu sailed yesterday afternoon for Kaikoura and Wellington. She is due back here on Wednesday. The Baden .Powell was placed on the slip yesterday morning, when it wee discovered that a seam forward had opened up, causing' the leak. She is to come off the slip this morning, and an endeavour will be made to despatch her for Wellington to-night. Mr L. Mciftirrich has- joined the Arahura as chief engineer,-vice Mr D. Malloch. Mr W. J. Freeman has signeu on the Arahura- as third mate.
The ..steamer Crosby Hall is due here tomorrow from 'Wellington to discharge Liverpool cargo. The Athenio will not leave 'Wellington for London until April 14th. A cable message states that* the steamer Doonholm, -with a cargo of Welsh coal, left Cardiff on March 29th for Lyttelton. The .New Zealand Shipping Company has ieoeived cable ;advice to say that the Orari arrived at London from New Zealand on March" 24tH. ' She left here on February Bfd.
Tie Haranga is to leave Lyttelton on Tuesday for - Wellington. She will complete
Homewaid loading there, and should eail for London on April 11th. f The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rem'uera, bound from (Southampton to, Wellington and Auckland, arrived at Newport News on March 21at, and left the following 1 day for Colon.. She is due at. Wellington about April 20th. . The New Zealand Shipping Company have, received cable advice that the steamer .Carpentaria left London on March 18th for St. John, where she will load for New Zealand and Australian ports. The Somerset, which left Wellington on February 23rd for London, arrived et Panama on March 15th, and left Colon in continuation of her voyage, four days later. The Laa Vegas, from San Francisco and Los Angeles l , has the following cargo for New Zealand:—Auckland: 150 tons, 130,000 ft of lumber, including 91 tons for transhipment from Wellington. Lyttelton: 1650 tons (included being 32,000 cases of gasoline); and Dunedin: 1800 tons, including 32,000 cttses of gasoline She is duo at Auckland about April sth, and here about Ap#l 23rd. The French ship Vorcingetorix, 2273 tons gross register, has been chartered to load wool at Wanganui for London. The four-masted barque Alice A. Leigh, which has been purchased by Msars G. H. Scales, Ltd., .of Wellington, and which is loading coal at Newcastle for a New Zealand port, was 'built at Whitehaven in 1889, and was for nearly twenty years owned' by Messrs John Joyce and Co., of Liverpool. The Alice A. Leigh, is the largest sailing ship ever; owned in New Zealand, and has a carrying capacity of nearly 5000 tons deadweight. She. is a, very fine steel vessel of 2999 tons gross register, 309.6 feet in length,'46.l ifeet beam, and 27.4 feet moulded derln. The Canadian Exporter arrived from Vancouver at Auckland on Monday, and anchored in the stream. She left Vancouver oh February'22nd, and called at Kahului, in the Hawaiian Group, and Suva en route, meeting with fine weather on the voyage. She brought a million feet:of timber and about 200 tons' of general cargo for Auckland, and after discharge will proceed to Wellington, where she will put out three million feet of timber and about 600 tons of general cargo: From Wellington the vessel will .proceed to Sydney. , Gaptaiji W. Bradley, D.5.0., iB in command. Cable advice has been received by the Iron and Steel Company, of Dunedin, that the following members of the crew of the barque Antiope left Sydney yesterday by-the' Riveiiua for "Auckland:—Atkins, Eyre, Lyon, -Lilly, Nanoarrow (apprentice), Derrick,, and MeGoon (seamen).

WAIMANA. FROM SOUTHAMPTON.
The S.S. and A. liner Waimano, which.arrived at 'Wellington on. Wednesday, left Southampton on February 18th, and encountered indifferent weather foT the first four days after which the -weather was. fine. On March 3rd she' passed' Mona Passage in the West Indies, and arrived- at Colon on March 6th. A man committed suicide on March 24th. After taking in coal and water, the Waimaria left Colon on March 7th. She oncountered fine weather until' 48 'hours out from Wellington, when fresh south-westerly winds and heavy seas were met with. The' steaming time for the voyage was 37 days and 13 hours.
The Waimana came out -in ballast, but brought some 900 immigrants. She is in commauM of Captain A. J. Char-, man, who has the following officers with him:—First, Mr J. M. Cameron; second, Mr W. G. West; third, Mr F. N. Smith; fourth, Mr H. Thompson; surgeon, Dr. V. Smith; chief engineer, Mr J. Hunter; -eecond, Mr C. Adams; third, Mr. R. C. Evans; fourth, Mr A. Haynea;- fifth,, Mr S. Carter; sixth, Mr R ; Fletcher; seventh, Mr D. Mayer; .first refrigerating engineer, Mr J. Bainbridge; ond, Mr W. Bellchamber; assistant engineer, Mrs R. Raeside; chief steward, Mr J. SCOW MIAGIC ABANDONED,
■ (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, April 1. An examination of the stranded scow Magic disclosed yesterday .that the vessel's topeidea have been carried = away,, and the ship-badly holed. The owners, the Hansford Mills C 0.,, have decided .to abandon ■ the scow to the underwriters who will now commence tEe salvage of. the engines and other gear, and also-a •number'of blocks of marble forming) the cargo, which-were thrown over ;the side in an attempt to lighten the ship when the tuga were endeavouring to tow her off. Later. The underwriters decline to accept' the' abandonment of the Magic, the (vessel being insured for a total loss. They;. intend to beach .the vessel and repair and launch her.
