ATHLETICS.

CANTB&BUEY CLUB. A meeting of tho General Committee of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was held last evening, Mr C. S. Thomas presiding. ' Mi Thomas said that tho main reason for the meeting was to formulate pome scheme for ensuring the jnicces of athletics next season. •It had been suggested, for instance, that a special committee should be set up to inangurato a campaign for collecting, picturo e-venings, etc, to secure funds for next season's evening meetings, and also that the General Committee should nwet from time to timo during the winter months, reporting- progress and endeavourins to obtain trophies, etc. On the motion of Mr F. "YV. Johnston, it was decided that the General Committee should meet monthly during th<> winter, on the first Thursday in each month. Messrs K. Thompson, \Y. C. Flewellyn, C. H. Taylor, F. W. Johnston, R. Anderson, and C. 8. Thomas- wrae appointed a committee to canvas for trophies fox next season's meetings. Tho matter* of endeavouring to arrange for a "picturo night" was left an tho hands of Mr K. Thompson.

It was decided that a general meeting, in the form of a social, be held, at which trophies won by members of the club during, the past season should be presented, and Messrs S. Cox, C. M. Walden, and C. H. Taylor wero appointed a eub-eommitteo to make the necessary arrangements. The 5-üb-committee €et up last rear to select likely athletes at the last annual primary schools' sports, reported' that the most promising of the young runners were L. Warthington, Owen "Bryden, J. Dickson, Howard Tapper, G. Mortlock, B. Noonan, and Francis Hunter, all of whom, it was considered, with proper tuition, should provo high-class performers. It was decided to elect all the boys mentioned free members of the club for two years, and to ask the boys to attend the next meeting of the committer to explain matters to them. v

OMIHI-WAEPAKA COLLIE CLUB.

The annual, meeting of the Omilii-'Waipara Collie Dog Club was held in the Omihi School, the president, Mr Angus Cameron, being in ths chair.

The balance-sheet was rend and adopted. Votes of thank 3 were accorded to' Mr Starkey for the -use of his grounds, and 'to the other officials who worked so hard to rnako the first trial a success. The election of officers resulted, as follows:—Patron, Mr G. B. Starky; president, Mr A. Cameron. '

It wa/s agreed that the ixisila bo held on Ai>ril .27th und 28th, on Mr G. B. Starky's estate at Spye,« Omihi. Mr Mcßae, of "Waikari, was appointed judge. Mr G. B. Starky'a offer to supply the sheep was recoivod with thanks.
