SHIPPING NOTES. • A moderate southerly gale delayed the Wahine's »TrjvaJ.at Lyttelton until 8.80 yesterday morning. ' The Calm has been delayed at Wellington and will not xeachT hero ■until to-morrow morning. She is to &ail to-morrow evening far Dunedin and Tiinarn. Tha Moeraki arrived at Wellington . on Monday evening, and her southern passengers will arrive, by the Maori this morhintr. The Moeraki is to leave Wellington for Sydney to-morrow afternoon. The Paloona is due here from Melbourne, via Bluff and Dunedin, on Thursday, and is to sail the some evening for Wellington, en. route for Melbourne. The Corinna, is due- here from the south to-morrow, and after loading produce nod general cargo, will sail tc-monrow night for Nehoa and New Plymouth. The Katoa was expected to leave Wellington ei midnight* last night for Lyttelton. She has 1200 tons of Auckland cargo to discharge' here, including sugar, and is at present timed to sail to-morrow night foe Dunedin. The Biloela is now timed to leave here on Eiiday for Westport. The "Wakcttu is duo back liero early this morning from Kaikoura and is to 6ail tonight for Kaikoura and Wellington, Tha Karori is to leave here on Sa-forrday for Greymouth, where she will load for Wellington. The Waitomo, which is loading 5000" tons of produce here for Auckland, is now fixed to sail on April Bth. The Gladbrook is to come out of dock early this morning, and will proceed to discharge the balanoo of her coal, retaining sufficient in the holds to act as ballast on her voyage to Suva. The Koromiko, at present discharging coal at Wellington, is to comcTto Lyttelton about the end cf this week to discharge 400 tons of hardwood poles which were overcarried last trip. The foiir-masUd schooner- Omega, which left Hob art on March 3rd with a cargo of lutrdwood for Lyttelton, should have put in an appearance before this, but has prob? ably been delayed by adverse weather conditions. On completion of discharge here the vessel will go to Greymouth to load timber for Sydney. Messrs C. Ferrior and Co. tie the Lyttelton agents for the vessel. The Ripple arrived here yesterday morning from Napier. She will lead general cargo for Napier andi Gisborne, and after shipping 33 polo ponies for the latter port, will sail to-day. The Rama could not get away for . the Chathams yesterday on account' of the illness of tho first mate. The vessel will leave on tho arrival of the ferry eteamer this morn l ing, by which another mate is expected to arrive. The American wooden steamer Broxton, which left Nowcartle on March 21st for Lyt•lelton, v.aa due here Yesterday and should show up to-day.. .%o brins« 4200 tons of coal for tho Blackball Coal Co., part of which will go to tho Christ church Gas Co.' , Captain H. Dryden, vtho bm been ashore on holiday leaye, has resumed, command of tho Mararoa, relieving Captain J. Maweon, who has come ashore for orders. Mr R. M. Kane, chief officer of the K&rcona, and Mr I. M. Earr. chief officer of the Kini, have exchanged positions. Captain H. W. Platu.has trarjsferred from the command of the, Te Anau to the Kakapo, relieving Captain G, Ktowles, who has come ashore for orders. Mr G. A. 0. Patience has eignod on the articles of the Corinna as eiecond officer, relieving Mr M. Robertson, who has come sihare for instructions. Mr J. Barnett has joined the Manuka as extra officer, .and Mr J. Hamer has signed on the same vessel 09 second engineer.' • Tho Ruapehu is to leave Port Charmers to-day for Blufi to continue loading. The alterations to the New Zealand Shipping Company's buildings ■ in Quay street, Auckland 1 , hnve bean, advanced eufEciently to allow the Union Steam Ship Company to take up their new offices in tha building almoat immediately. The Union Company have vacated their offices at the corner of Queen and Customs streets, and will be located in their new premises this week. On the completion of further alterations to the Quay street building both the New Zealand and the Union Shipping! Companies will b* located in one large office, although their respective busrcKysseß .will bo operated separately. ' Tho "Waimate, .as present discharging St. John cargo at Wellington, will leave there on Friday for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She will later proceed to Melbourne and Sydney. With a difference of ten hours' travelling time the Mahana. and the Port Sydney arrived at Auckland niter a- close tub from Balboa. The Port Sydney, it is stated, left the. Panama. Canal port on March Ist in continuation of her voyage from New York, eight liour3 ahead! of tho Mahana, which was journoying from London. On tho first noon out tho Mshana icckoned tho other vessel to bo 120 miles ahead, and for three weeks the Port Sydney remained in front and out of eight. Aboui a week ago strong head winds wtre encountered, and the Mahana gradually made up leeway until last Thursday morning Bhe caught eight of tho foremost vessel. During the morning the former vessel overtook the other and l lsft it behind. At 8.35 on Friday morning the Mahana arrived at Auckland, followed by the Port Sydney a* 10.20.
