LAWN TENNIS.

EASTER TOURNAMENT. The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's Easter Tournament was continued yesterday on th<> Avonside and Linwood courts. The weather was most suitable, no glaring oun and no high wind. There was again a large gathering of spectators, and all the more important events were followed with olose interest. There was nothing very outstanding in the day's play. The Misses E. and W. Partridge effected somewhat of a surprise by defeating Miss Bain and Mr 3 Do] and in the Ladies' Championship Doubles, and a large crowd consequently gathered round to witness the match in the next round between these two girls and Hi3S Curtis (New Zealand lady champion) and Miss Arrowsmith. The latter pair, however, exercised a decided superiority, and won easily in two straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Thr> Misses Partridge, who are quite young girls, have already advanced far in their tennis career, and will undoubtedly improve with further experience. Anotter good ' match was that in the semi-finals of the Combined Doubles Championship, between the doyen of New Zealand tennis, Mr W. G033, partnered by Mrs ,-Bitcher, and Dr. Allison and the redoubtable Miss Curtis. The issue really was never in doubt, but Goss played with astounding agility and force, and put up quite a good fight in the second set. His opponents, however, were altogether too strong on all strokes pretty well, and they won the match, 6-1, 6-8. The tournament will be continued, and, if possible, concluded to-day."
