In view of the Financial Confercnco being held in Brussels, commencing on the 24th instant, Sir Jam©3 Allen imd Colonel G. F. O. Campbell have proceeded to tlio Continent. Tliey started out earlv, however, and are accompanied by Mr S. Hurst «cager, their object being to visit the Battle Slemonal sites before going to Brussels. Although it lias been decided that the memorial in tho Sommo should boon the high round between High Wood and Delvillo Wood, near Flers, tho cxact spot has not yet beon chosen. It is for tnis purpose that tlioy will visit that part of the battlefields, and Sir James Hopes to bo ablo to meet tho Prelectof tho Sommo and arrange for the transfer of the property. The transfer of tho other three sites is already under way, but things are moving slowly and Sir James is paying a visit to the authorities in France and Bclgum with the object of hastening tho completion of tho transactions. Mr Hurst Seager lias beon doing a Treat deal of voluntary work in connexion with the Battlo Memorials, and at tho invitation of the High Commissioner he has submitted sketches of very handsome monuments, the inspiration for which he gained on 'a previous visit ho •paid to the places where they will be erected.
