AWARDS MADE. The industrial agreement arrived at between the Christcharch Press Company, Ltd., and tho Chr:«tchureh Journalist a' Union, in •((•=poct t>f salaries and conditions affecting til? staff of the "R-efereo" has been mado an ! award of the Court. ' The industrial agreement arrived at be- [ the Chrwtchurch Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Eiicrieers and tlio Addington Iron Rolling Mills, has been embodied in an award. As it relates to wages tho award is to t-aie eScct as 1 from July 80th, 1920, and as to other provisions as from November 4tli, 1920; it is to remain in forco toll July 30th. 1921. Tho award in tho fi a ngr?- workers' section of the Amalgamated Society of - Engineers proceeds on the lines of tho industrial agreement arrived at before the Council of Conciliation. A memorandum attached to tho award states: —"The only substantial question referred to the Court for determination in thi® dispute was that of wages. The Iset award in this industry in Canterbury was made on July 19th, 1918, _ and since that date tho various cost of living- bonusM havo been awarded from timo to time. On Juno 25th last, however, the Court, on tho application of tho Union, and in pursuance of its pronouncement of April last, as po basic wages and bonus, raaisod tho basic wages and bonus of tho workers in this industry in accordance with that pronouncement. Thcso workers, therefore, had the full basic wages and bonus to which they were entitled, and the Court sees no reason for increasing theso rates, nof of departing from that pronouncement. It is desirable to explain that in making 1 proviso cm in this award that tho bonus shall 'bo included in -lh& computation of overtime (which is expressly excluded in the ordor of Juno 25th, above referred to) tli'3 Court has only granted this because of the fact that tho engineering trades generally (of. which this is a section) have by agreements secured euch a provision _ rn their awards; but tho Court does not wish it t<J be ocmcluded that it ha-a' reversed it® pronouncement or departed generally from its settled policy in this connexion. Tho award as it relates to wages in to take effect as from November let, IS2O, and as to other provisions as from November -Ith, 1930; it is to aontinuo ia force till November l3t, 1929.
