Tho demand was keen for mutjton. but there was an over supply of beef, and lower prices prevailed. Store sheep -wero in better demand' than last week. The salo 1 concluded in a failing light, and in view of the big pennings, which show no sign of diminishing, it would bo found conducive to the comfort of patrons and the Kuccesa of the sale to 6tart proceedings in fat stock a. little earlier. ' STORE SHEEP. Thero was a- slightly smaller yarding than last, week, but the quality showed a big l improvement. There wero some good local lines forward, with a fair sprinkling of southern and West Coast eheep. Tho market opened on a better basis than the closing rates last week, and wa3 much brighter throughout. A Urni demand exiai-od for good sheep, but outside lines wero difficult to quit. The proportion of primo was larger than usual, there being a number o£ lines of particularly good quality— the best quality yarding for some time. The market opened firmly at last week's ratea, and the healthy tone was maintained throughout. Prime lines were in particularly good demand. A considerable section of tho yarding went to tho companies, which were operating v.-itli more freedom than for some time past. Tho tops of a fine draft of wetbeis penned by Mr H. There was a medium yarding of rather poor class quality, and the sale dragged, lineß being difficult to quit. Valuer wero as under:— Two-year-old spring caivene, to £7 2a 6d. Two and a iuulf-yoar-old steers, to £6 15s. Good forwvrd cows, to £8 Gs. Potters, to £2 10a. DAIRY CATTLE. There was a fair entry, a good demand being experienced fir heifers and cows close to profit. The quality, in general, was not up to the usual standard sent forward, only a few good cows I»eing offered. A lot of poor stuff was passed, being sent cut. to the store pens. Values were as under (for good quality beasts): — .Springing heifers, Tip to £13. Second and third calvers, to £17 70s. Inferior and faackwaid lines, to £12. PIGS.
