He was Jnnior Counsel to the Treasury at the Central Criminal Court 1886, and Senior Counsel 1888, and Recorder of Salisbury 1893-19Q8. Tho death is announced of Mis 3 Rhoda Broughton, the novelist. j Miss Broughton, who was born in North Wales in 1840, was the author of numerous novels, the first two of which. "Cometh Up As a Flower" and "Sot Wisely but Too Well," "were published in 18G7. Her most recent books were "The Devil and the Deep Sea,"' 1910, and "Between Two Stools," 1912.] PREMIER CT PORTUGAL. LT.SRON, June 6. _ The Premier, Colonel Antonio Bnptista, died suddenly during a Cabinet meeting. News has been received that Mr E. C do Baugli, a member of the Sydney firm of Archer Whitford, advertising agents, died suddenly at his residence, " T .ci:ra," Neutral Bay, aged 46 years. He had been in fjoo'l hen Ith i)p to the dnv beforo his death. Mr de Baugh had been engaged in the advertising business for the past 25 years, and wan well known throughout Australia and New Zealand. He served with the Victorian Bushmen's Continsent in t'le Smth. African war. Mr de Buisrh left C'hri-tc-hurch to take up business in Sydney some years ago. He leaves a widow and two sisters—Mrs F. G. r.ewton, Cheviot, and Mrs Bradley, Master ton.
