Leather for the re-soling of boots and shoes should be selected with the saino care as an engineer chooses a piece of steel for n particular job. Like steel, leather varies, each variety being suited for a particular purpose, and, to obtain the best service, it is necessary that the correct variety should bo chosen. This is where the ordinary cobbler fails; generally because he hasn't a sufficiently large and varied stock t'o select from. Among leathers for re-soling purposes the following are the best: — Avonside "No. 1, Best Quality'-'—A ■well-tanned English leather; too hard for summer wear, but long-wearing and waterproof for winter use. "Federation" No. 1, Best Quality— An English flexible leather that always wears well. "Walker's"—Another English tannage, very similar to "Federation." The texture of this leather is of a nature that -will not grind, and withstands rough surfaces such as concrete floors, etc.

"Hemlock," "Hoyt's Tannage"—A Canadian red leather, recommended for all j3un>oses. It is reasonably waterproof. Will wear under all conditions, -whether near hot coals in front of a furnace or in tho freezing chamber. Light soles _ that will giro the same wear as double the substance in other lenthers is a waterproof greenhide, or "Durox."

The foregoing are all stocked by Messrs Gough and Son, Hipch. street, City, and Colombo street, 'Sydenham (opposite Simply Stores). They also use a special leather of a particularly flexible nature for rc-solinf* pumps. Messrs Gough. and Son do nob follow- the printed schedule for their charges, but "base the cost on the actual leather used, so that the person "wearing a small size pays less thim one wearing a big boot. c
