"One "Who Knew Him."—Some little while ago a fund was started to erect a small memorial in the eitv to the lato Sergeant Nicholas, V.C., and to make some small provision for his mother. Some £60 or £70 has so far been subscribed, but the aim is to collect something in the neighbourhood of £1000, the bulk of the money to be used in providing an annuity for Mrs Nicholas. The Deputy-Mayor (Cr. J. W. Beanland) has the matter in Land.
