Father O'Sullivan, S.M.. of Upper Hutt. has taken charge of the Hokitika parish during the absence ot the Verv Rev. D'oan lubman, who is on a holiday visit to the Old Country. Archdeacon Jacob, of limaru, has been advised that the Order of the British Empire has been conferred on him in recognition of his war services, and ho will go this week to \\ ellingt-on, where the investiture will take place. Lieut.-Colonel Chalmers, of Dunoon, Argyllshire, arrived in Timaru last week. Ho' saw four years' active service in France, won the M.C., and was mentioned in despatches. He intends to settle down on the land in South Canterbury. Mr James "Watson, manager of the Auckland branch of the Standard Insurance Company, has resigned that position in order to enter into business on his own account. Mr H. T. H. Grave, manager of the company's branch at New Plymouth, has been appointed to succeed Mr "Watson.
