SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The month'.v meeting of the Southi P.akow, Road Board was held in. the Hoard suffice on Thursday. Thcro were piescnt—Messrs A. J. Magson (chairman), B. J. Harrison, and Crothers. The clerk's report, showed "that '.vork_ had been don© during the month on the AYakenui Boundary road, the Main South road. Thompson's track, and tho Kakaia Bnago approach. * On the South Bive r road b<>. low Mr Langley'fc, the wator-raeo had flooded the road for pour© chains. Tho ranger hud attended to th« crcesmg,. hnb the load was low for somo distance, and would require to bo made up. Pipes for \vaterraco croseings had I>eon put iu. at &oinerton. The Barrhill road was in bad order, through the traction casino traffic, and this would Tcquirc attention. Thero appeared to be eorao lockage from the race at Gardiner's corner on the Main. South road. A letter was received from Mr A. Drummond, a late member of the Board, thanking the Board for its letter of appreciation of his services. The Canterbury Education Board forwarded additional plans of the roadway proposed to bs closed for a 6chool sile. In answer to the Road Board's request for the reinstatement of the faster train on Wednesday mornings, the lit. Hon. W. Y. Maseey wote that the traffic did not warrant the step, and the question of the coal supply was also a factor to bo considered. The Canterbury Progress League forwarded a notice of its annual meeting. It vtus agreed not to have a separate representative, as the Ashburton County Council would have a representative present. The Ashburton County Council wTote asking for the "Board's support in an effort t have tho Counties Act emended, to enable the Council to establish an up-to-date roadmaking plant. It was agreed to give the help requested. The Board could not fie® its way clear, however, to help the Council in tho establishing of tho plant. In reply to the Board's request for financial assistance towards the up-kecp of the Main South rood, the Public "Works Department stated that the request had boon forwarded to the District Engineer to report on. The clerk presented a statement showing that from April, 3018, to April. 1919, £100 had. been spent on this road, £269 tho fol-lowing-year, and. up to 2lay of this yeor, £132. The damage was done principally hj the through .traffic of inotor-cajs. Notice of a transfer was received from J. Duncan to "W. O'Reilly.
