THE VATICAN.

POLICY OF EECONCTLIATIOISr.

(By Cable—Pre33 Association—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received June 4th, 12.5 a.m.)

NEW YORK, June 2.

A telegram from Rome says the Catholic Kings Alfonso of Spain and Albert of Belgium suggested the lifting of the ban on visits by Catholic Sovereigns to the King of Italy.

Italian Senators urge Parliamentary action towards complete reconciliation of the Holy See with the Italian State.

rA previous message from Rome said: —The Pope's encyclical letter recommends a policy of reconciliation between the spiritual and temporal powers of Italy, and asks the Catholic princes to show their opponents the greatest toleration. It forgives all who distorted tho Papal intention in war-time, and rescinds the prohibition against Catholic rulers visiting the King of Italy, but emphasises that this must not be interpreted as a tacit renunciation of tlie sacrosanct rights of the Holy See; otherwise the Pontiff will renew his predecessors' protests for the purpose of safeguarding its rights and dignities.]
