BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SUMNER. The Sumner Borough Council met last night. Prcs-nt—The Mayor (Hon. J. BarT, M.L.C.), Cm. H. C. Jamiceon, T. Dryburgh, C. M. Ro?\vell, C. Benjamin, H. J. Yates, F. Gill, and W. G. Black. /An invitation from tlie Rev. E. C. W. Powell to attend a church parade on Anzac Day -was accepted. 1 A letter was received from tho Dnnedin City Council relative to a State bonus for parents of largo families. It was decided not to support the proposal. The resignation of Cr. Yates as a member of the Lifeboat Committee was accepted, mid Cr. iilack wag appointed to fill the vacancy. The request of Mr R. English for permission 'o -i mo'n" r h , »-l "r"trfed on certain conditions and it was decided to supply atone for building a wall upon payment of a royalty. It was dccided that no alteration bo made in the existing scale of wages paid to labourers. An offer from Mr Deyenish MeaTes to ereot a shelter at Clifton similar to tho one at Monck's Bay was accepted. Cr. Benjamin referred to the etnte of the outlet of the drain at Boll's Baths. Tho matter was referred to tho Standing Committee. It was reported that tho preliminary arrangements for a poll on tho question of tt water supply were in hand. Notice of motion was given by Or. DryJ burrrh to the effect that, ct future meetings of the Council, no new business bo brought up for discussion after 9.20 p.m.
Tho question of providing electric li?hting> in Eiiston street was a?ain discussed, and it was dccidod that tho work be put in hand when materials were obtainable. Cr. Jamieson reported that complaints had been received regarding the state of eeveral hedges in the main street. Tho Town Clerk reported that the required notices were beingprepared, and would be forwarded to the offending parties as soon as possible. NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr F. Kibblewhite), Crs. E. A. Leaver, F. Sincock, J. "VV. Biseett, R. Browning, J. Bellamy, R. Stokes. F. Minson, and C. leraelson. It was decided to endorse the Dunedin City Council's resolution dealing with a suggested nationl scheme of assistance to the parents of largo families of British-oorn children residing in the Dominion, and that the member for tho district be communicated with ill tho matter. Permission was granted the local Fire Brigade to hold competitions on the eporta grounds on April 10th, and to take tip a col* lection. It was agreed to vote the sum of £5 to the school picnic fund. The School Committee's application for a reduction in the sanitary rate was refused. The Finance Committee reported that 160 prmifq bu r l h»-->n groi'-'l to date, having an aggregate valno of £36,667.
It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Isrne'son, that in future all footpaths in the borough ehould bo ten feet in wi££}i.
The plan of the Britannia Estate eubdivision was approved, 6«bject to the condition that the new street be formed and conetrvctcd in accordance with the requirements of the Council.
It was decidcd that the work of re-grading Estnaiy road be proceeded with at once.
