PRINCE OF WALES.
HIS COMING TOUR. (By C»bl«—Prtts AMOcifttiaa—Copyrijrbt.l (iuaUiJiui »nd N.Z. Cabl* AuocdtUoa.) (Received Jnnunry 11th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 8. Official circlos emphasise the grcai ( difficulties in the way of the proposal that tho Prince of Wales should net as Governor-General during his visit to Australia. lie desires to seo tho country in the same thorough way as ho did during his tour of Cnnnda, and if Vice-Regal duties dcvolvo on him, they must necessarily curtail his freedom of movement, thus defeating the main object of his journey. Tho date of his departure has not yet been fixed, and it is undecided •whether tho Prince will travel via tho Suez or tho Panama route, but tho latter is practically certain. Tt is likely, in this erent. that he will call at places in tho West Indies, which will bo the first occasion of a Royal visit to those possessions. r.\ message from Ixnulon on January ."th said:—Whilo no precedent exists for tho temporarr appointment of visiting rovaltv as Governor-General, the Colonial Office views sympathetically a suggestion thnt the Prince of Wales should net for a short period in Australia if this could ho arrontiod with the King's and the Government's approval. Jt is admitted that this would afford a unique opportunity to pny o graceful compliment to Australia, but it is pointed out that New Zealand is jointly concerned in tho visit. 1 ]
