At the opening of the matinoe performance of Wirth's circus at Dunedin on Satnrday (telegraphs our correspondent), a presentation of a handsomely worked wallet was mado to Mr Georgo "Wirth, on behalf of tho soldier patients at the Dunedin hospital. Tho Bev. V. G. Bryan King mado tho picsentation, and referred to tho generous manner in which Mr Wirth had treated "tho boyB" whilo in Dunedin.

A gathering of railway officials was held at Auckland last week to bid farewell to two of their number who aro about to leave Auckland on promotion. Mr A. Duncan, district traffic manager presided. Tlio two officers wero Mr L. C. E. Hamann, who has been in the Auckland district traffic oflico for about twenty years, and filled tho position of chief clerk for some seven years, and who is about to tako up an appointment as assistant district traffic manager in Christchurch, apd Mr 0. L. Anderson, hitherto staff clerk in Auckland, who has been promoted to tho bead office of tho Department in Wellington. In tho name of tlio staff of tho Auckland railways, Mr Duncan presented Messrs Hamann and Anderson with a suit-case each, accompanying tho presentation with warm tributes to their ability and devotion ns railway sen-ants. He specially emphasised tho ability displayed by Mr Hamann in his administrative work, his tireless industry in his official duties, and his unvafying courtesy to the public. Several other leading officers of the Auckland section spolce on similar lines. Tho members of tho "New Zealand Herald" staff also presented Mr Hamann with a memento.
