DESTITUTE SEAMEN.
io rm: rnii'tr, ok ''tub fRKss." Sir, — 1 read with considerable tion Lord Heatty's announcement that > Rntish naval seamen (discharged! were living with their families in u state ot destitution. These are men «jh> helped to save the Empire in that they not only fought its battles, but protected its communications and its trade routes—the arteries of its existence. It seems to me, therefore, that they constitute a charge not to Hritaiu <>:ily. but to the Empire at large. We in New Zealand, enjoying unexampled prosperity, owe a duty to these men — tint merely to put our hands in our pockets ami tender ihcm tome paltry charity, hut to niter some of them at least a home where they can be certain of earninir a comfortable livelihood. Trusting that you will consider this suggestion worthy of notice, r.nd that you will induce the local branch of the .Navy League to take it up.----Yours, etc.. IIOttOKATA.
