OBITUARY.

MR R. R. WALTER. Mr Reginald Richard "Walter, son of Mr C. H. "Walter, Marshland, died at i:is residence, Mairchau, last Sunday. "Waltor relinquished his duties in tho Customs Department, Wellington, about two years ago, owing to indifferent health, and came to Christchucrn tor medical treatment. Ho was born at Purau, near Lyttelton, and received bis education at tho Marshland school, and subsequently at the Chnstchurch Boys' High School, where he ga.ned two exhibition scholarsh.ps He «as appointed to the local branch of H.M. Customs, and after two. years' scrv.ce was transferred to Nnpier, being stationed there for five andaftor. wards for five years at £ cllington, and six vonrs at Nelson, fro m the latter town he was promoted .to ellmgton. Mr Waltor was of a bright and genial disposition, and was very highly esteemed bv a wide circle of friends. He took a keen interest in cricket, and was a batsman of no mean order. He played for the Marshland Club, _ when it won the Wisden Clip competition, and for the Svdenham Rivals Club. At Napier ho pl'aved for Scinde, and was also secretnrv to the club. He was selected as a pi aver in tho Hawke's Bay Representative team. He aoted a 9 field captain for the Nelson Club s senior team. Ho was a member of tje Nelson Golf and Rowling Clubs and displayed enthusiastic interest in its sport. The interment took place privately in tho Waimairi Public Cemetery, tho pallbearers being intimate friends on the Customs staffs at Wellington and Christchurch. He leaves a widow and ono son to mourn their loss.

The death has occurred at Blenheim of Mr Richard Corbett. a well-known figure in the pastoral industry in Marlhorouch. Mr Corbett was for many vears manager of the Lenfield shep station, and afterwards manager of the Bankhouse station, which he conducted for several years. The deceased, who never married, was 78 years of age.
