Maddison. Bury street. Stunner. Another of the early Temuka settlers —Mrs Mary A. Morris, widow of the late- Isaac Morris —passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, at tho ago of 80 years. Mrs Morris was born in the Isle of Wight, in 1539, and, with her husband and family, came to Xew Zealand in 1870, landing at Lyttelton. A year later, Mr and Mrs Morris went to Temuka, and there Mrs Morris resided until her death. She was n good wife and mother, a true friend, and a staunch member of the Church of England. Despite her age. Mrs Morris enioyed good health until n comparatively short time ago. Her "husband died about 20 years ago. and she leaves six "ins anil a dauehter (Mrs A. 'Nicholas. UODGE—II EDM AX. At the Congregational Cltureh, Masterton, on Wednesday, Mr F. I?. Hodge, of the literary staff of tho "llawke's Is.iv Herald."" Napier, was married to Miss Freda Lydia Evelyn Redman, only daughter of Mr and Mrs P. T. Redman. The ceremony was performed by the bridegroom's father, the Rev. A. Hodge, of Napier. FANCY D3IEBS DANC'E AT TE KORAHA. "Te Koraha," Merivale, was en fete last evening, tho occasion being a fancydress danco given by Captain and the Hon. Mrs Tahu Ithudes. A thoroughly carnival spirit prevailed among tho guests, nearly all of whom were in fancy djess. Some of the costumes worn were very beautiful, while in other cases the bizarre or novel effect striven for was splendidly conveyed. Many people, in fact, were almost unrecognisable, and one man who catne as a "Whitecap," closely hooded, had many guesses made as to iiis identity. Dancing took place in the ballroom, to the music supplied bv Miss Macdonald's orchestra. The drawing-rooms were thrown open for sitting-out purposes, their decorations mainly of red flowers being very charming. Tho same decorative scheme prevailed in the dining-room, where supper was served. In an interval, little Joan Bcere, the clever "Wellington child dancer, gave one of her dances, for which she was heartily applauded. The hostess wore a charming "Frivolity" costume, carried out in tones of nattier blue and scarlct. The quaint pantaloons were of blue and gold checked satii, and the lamp-hade tunic was of alternating stripes of blui* and scarlet, while the blue bodice had a largo pierrot ruffle of blue tulle. The headdress was composed of scarlet ostrich feathers, and a blue wand tipjKxl with a large scarlet ostrich feather, was! carried. Mrs A. L. (I, Rhodes wore a | lot ely pompadour costume of floral ' chine silk, and her hair was powdered. The Hon. Eileen Plunket made a fascinating French student in a blue smock and the reflation tarn o'shanter-like cap. Captain Tahu Rhodes was Mephistopheles. and Mr A. E. G. Rhodes a] chef.
His Excellency came as an Admiral of the IStli Century,, in thti costume that was worn l>v an ancestor of his. Her Excellency wore, the fibre costume of u Cook Island #rl with h<addre.-s and chains ot beads complete. Sir Heaton Rhodes was a Japanese Daimio, and I<ady Rhodes wore a lovely trained frown of chine silk, with a blurred demkii in amethyst flowers, and a jewelled ornament in her powdered hair. Mr and Mrs George Rhodes. and Mi»s Shun.i Rhodes came as "The Hopkins r r.niilv. Mr Rhodes a splendid "\\a\back.'' while Mrs Rhodes's representation of a Coster created much amusement.
