RACING AND TROTTING NOTES. (Br "J/ooker-On.") Bon Spec was scratched for the Telegraph Handicap at Wellington immediately after the weights appeared on Tuesday. Onslaught and A myth as wore both sore when they returned to Riccarton after the holiday Meetings. F. Christmas and J. Pearson returneel from the West Coast yesterday with their respective teams. The lliccarton horseman, George Young, has done a. lot of travelling during the past fortnight. He went to Pnlmorston North to ride Sir George Clifford's horses at the Manawatu Meeting, after which ho assisted at tho Southland and Wyndham Meetings. At tho conclusion of the southern fixtures lie came back to Riccarton, and loft during the week for the West Coast. Yesterday ho signalised his first appearance in tho saddlo on the other sirlo of the ranges by riding War Tax into Recond place. l>ehind Sleepy Head, ridden by H. Young, in the Point Handicap, and later in tho day ho rodo Tyne to win tho Inangahua Cup. Warform, who has proved somewhat expensive to his connexions during the "West Coast Racing Carnival, scored his first win yestorday. Several times of lat?» he has been warmly supported, only to let his Backers down badly. J. Campbell rodo Warlike when that gelding won on tho concluding day of the Greymonth Meeting. 7t was Camp-j boll's first mount on a West Coast racecourse.

War Tax, ridden l>y G. Young, fell while running in the Electric Handicap, at Reefton, yesterday. An enquiry was held into the cause of tho accident, but no action was taken.

The starting at Reefton yesterday was irrogulnr, and the bumping that took place effectually settled the chances of several competitors. The Progressive Handicap was remarkable for tho evenness of the betting on the four competitors. Thero was a difference of only 23 tickets invested on the chances of tho favonrito and Rangi Aroha, and tho outsider, Golden Morn.

It is tho intention of the Greymonth Jockey Club to present Mr F. Biel, nwncr of Arlington, witli an enlarged frnmed photograph of his gelding, ns a memento of the great weight-carrying performances registered during tho West Coast Carnival.

| On the morning of the concluding day of the Southland Racing Culb's Summer Mooting, Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., held a sale of trotting stock on behalf of the well-known Kastorn District Btudmastcrs, Messrs Stevenson and MeMath. Tho young animals offered were well-grown and in good order, tho of tho draft having already been gaited to pace in an efficient manner. Though Voter broko several times in tho Saddle Trot at Reefton yesterday, ho had no difficulty in gaining first money.
