AUCKLAND, January 8. The hearing of the charge of murdering her fifteen months' old daughter by immersing her in it creek on Decenil>er 20th, which was laid aguinst Constance Elizabeth I'arpreviously described as Holts, >\as heard at Mercer on Tuesday. The inquest on the child was lvcld at ihe mmc time. Dr. 11. Wake, who made the post mortem examination of the child, stated that it died from shock due to immersion in cold water. There \v?re no visible signs of injury on the body. The child was well developed, and kab perfectly healthy, and well cared for. Witness ha-1 conversed with the accused, and concluded that she was suffering from mental confusion. Dr. Murray, who had visited the accused at Mount Eden prison, stated that she was not mentally normal, and i-pparently knew nothing of tho nature and quality of what she had done. Witness considered that sho wan insane when she committo.l the act. T)ie jury returned an open verdict, and accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
