McCarthy, Coroner, a verdict was returned in accordance with tho medical testimony that tho causo of death was heart failure, duo to chronic nephritis. , John Stewart, a retired farmer, ot Sheffield, who was staying at tho Shades Hotel, Christchureh. died suddenly at about 0 a.m. yesterday. Tho deceased, who was 53 years of ago, was a Einglo man, who until recently had been farming at Sheffield in partnership with his brother, Mr Ebencr.er Stewart. An inquest was held at tho Magistrate s Court yesterday, before Mr S. E. M°Carthy* Coroner, who, after hearing medical evidence, returned a verdict that the deceased died from heart failure, duo to degeneration of the heart muscles. (press association telegrams.) AUCKLAND, January 6. A serious accident occurred to-night nt Alexandra Park, when a motor-cycle, ridden by William Charles Macklow collided with a motor-cycle ridden bv Selwvn Craig. Both rvclists were thrown heavily, and Mack low, who was 25 years of ago, was taken to the hospital. Buffering from a serious internal injury, from which ho died shortly after admission. Craig suffered a broken arm. Both men were practising for tin* motor-cyclo sport*.
