Other lot s wero available, but no one took them up. Questioned regarding tlio pavment of certain moneys to Palmer and Dr. Gilruth when their partnership in the lease was dissolved. Mr Carev denied that" the alleged dissolution' was a mero blind, and stated that Dr. Gilruth held a half share in the lease which was issued in 'the namo of Palmer.

Asked why Dr. Gilrnth did not issue the lo.iso to Palmer and Gilruth, witness replied that, as far as the Land Board was concerned, it dealt with Palmer only. Asked if Palmer did not get special conditions. Carey said no. except that the rent was £5 higher than for the other blocks.

Mr Justice Ewing stated that he had read the correspondence between Yesty's and various persons. Without committing himself by anything he might say, the impression left on his mind was that Yesty's wpto not. connected with the American Beef Trust, and also that there was no connexion between Vestv's and Government officers, excepting that it was once proposed to emolov Dr. Giimth in certain investigations'.
