Mr Walter Hailes, a Balfour sheepfarmer, recently deceased, left £1000 to the 'Roman Catholic ~ Buildin<* and Furnishing Fund, Gore; £1000 to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Anderson's Bay; £1000 to the Home of Compassion. Island Bay; £1000 to the Convent of Mercy. Gore; £500 to the Catholic Church, Balfour; and £500 at the discretion of the Bishop of the diocese for the establishment or endowment of a convent school, either at Balfour or Riversdale. The estate was sworn at £35,000. *
