There was one death from influenza to-day. RAVAGES IN JAPAN. (."The Times.") (Received February 18th, 7.30 p.m.) TOKIO, February 10. Influenza is levying heavily on all ranks. Over 5,000,000 cases are reported, and 55,000 deaths. POSITION IN ENGLAND. (United Service.) (Received February 19tli, 1.40 a.m.) LONDON, February 17. The influenza epidemic is not abating. There were 138 deaths in Edinburgh last weolc, of which ninety were from pneumonia. The estimated deaths in the last quarter of 1918 totalled 175,000, largely young adults, involving an economic loss of £120,000,000. Doctors increasingly believe that masks afford protection. ADVICE TO AUSTRALIA. (SPECIAL TO "THE 'PRESS.") WELLINGTON, February 18. Twenty-five New Zealand nurses lett for Australia to-day under ■ tho .direction of tho Public Health Department, to assist in fighting tho influenza epidemic. This was in response to a request made by tho Australian authoritl Tho Premier of New South Wales cabled to tho Government of .New Zealand asking for any advice and mrorination that this country could give in connexion with the epidemic. lne Minister of Public Health (tho Jlon. G W. Russell) stated that a cablegram had been sont in reply, embodying the experience of Now Zealand in dealing with the outbreak.
