: ♦ r— GOVERNMENT'S DECISION REVERSED. Tlio Hon. G. W. Russell informed a "Press" reporter on Saturday that the question of relaxing the conditions ivhich. have obtained regarding the granting of permits for patriotic purposes not directly connected with, tho Expeditionary Forces had. l>een reconsidered, and it had now.been determined by the Government that as the war waj; over and there were very largo funds in the hands of the patriotic societies of New Zealand, amounting to at least ono and a half 'million sterling, those localities which desired to establish soldiers' qlußs and other memorials for the benefit of returned men would be allowed to do so. He had therefore) telegraphed to the Returned Soldiers' Association. Timaru, and the Mayor of Thnaru, informing them, that their application for tho establishment of a war fund would be at once approved. The Christchurch project for the erection of a Returned Soldiers' Club had been already approved. Ho did not think any other applications for permits had been, received.
