SPRINGS. The . monthly meeting of the. Springs County' Council was attended by Councillors "I. Andrew (chairman), J.AV. Kime, C. AYoife, Ale*. Thompson, John Stalker, and W. J. MoSJil'an. . ' , . Mr W. Mutton, who wrote to the Council the- previous month complaining about the E-tool; oil roads nuisance, atr»m naked that stepa ehould be taken to stop the practice. TJio clerk was directed to reply that the Council was doing its best in the rau-ttir, and to suggest, that Mr Mutton ehould tako action himself to secure relief. It was alto decided to ask Mr M*. On the motion of Cr. Wolfe, it wus cided to reply that the Springs Council was of opinion that local bodies should make recommendations regarding cases for relief, bitt that it considered tho Government should administer the fund.
The AV&irewa Comity. Council wrote, suggesting that a conference between representatives of Springs and Wairewn. should bo hci-.l at Miller's bridge on a date 1 o bo arranged to discuss the question of reconstruction of the bridge, Messrs T. Queaiy and Jt. Macartney.-, who had furnished reports concerning the bridge, to be asked to attend. l'lie. suggestion tvrjs agreed to, and Crs. McMillan, Stalker, and Wolfe, and the engineer were appointed to represent Springs. ' The chairman said he had always been opposed to building a light bridge. It wou.-l be'far better to have a ferroconcrete structure, which woft'ld pan out chjcap3r in the long run. . ' . Other mcmbeTs supported the chairman's 1 view. . It was decided, or. the motion of Cr. Kim?, to reply that the Council was opposed to building a light bridge, but that it waa in' hearty agreement v.'.lh Sclwyn regarding tha injustice of Clause 9, and thought it should bo repealed. Appreciation was expressed of the- action o£ l the Spriugsion South Gala Committee in voting the entire proceed? of ils gala, amounting to £50, to the Navy League Fund.
