THE SOLDIERS' APPEAL.

The Returned Soldiers* Association appeals to the public for subscriptions for a Fund for the purpose of erecting a Soldiers' Club and Offices for the Association. A site has been acquired, half an acre, with frontage of one chain: Oil Gloucester and Armagh streets, is proposed to erect £n this sito promises suitable for a Social Club for Returned Soldiers and also for offices for the Association; the grounds are large enough to enable a bowling green and croquet lawn to be provided. . Such a Club is urgently required; the present premises are utterly inadequate even to the demands now upon, them; their inadequacy will become more and more apparent with, each returning draft. , . . The U.S.A. is an association of cmlians; membership is open only to Returned. Soldiers who have been honourably discharged. The vast majority ol its members arc already fully restored to civil life, and the Association exists for the purpose of aiding in the restoration of the remainder as they oomo home. Those who know the work that has been done, and is still being done, by tho R.S.A. will not doubt that its activities are in the deepest interest 'the public as well as of the themselves. It is not for Returned Soldiers to remind the people of Canterbury of service cheerfully given. But they make their appeal in the proud confidence that the response they look for is not beyond their deserving. In view of the largo numbers of men now returning, it is earnestly desired to commence building operations within the nest "week. The public are therefore urged to give—or promise—at once. Subscriptions may bo forwarded to Mr G. A. U. Tapper," Manager, Bank of New Zealand, who has consented to act as Honorary Treasurer to the Fund, or to Mr G. L. Donaldson, P.O.
