FIRES.

OPUNAKE, January 31. The public rchool was burnt to the ground at 1 o'clock this morning. When the liro v.as discovered, the building was well alight, and there was no possibility of saving it. The school was about 40 years old, aud had been used as a temporary hospital daring the epidemic, but, as it has been unoccupied for about three we&ks, the fire appears to be an incendiary one. A shed, wherein the school furniture and books aro stored, was not damaged.
