1 . BILLIARDS. A "Flying- -50" billiard hahdicap, played at the Lyttelton Club Hall this week, resulted in V. r . Agar beating J. MoLcod in the final. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., two first offenders were each convicted and discharged. For breaches of their prohibition orders, Peter Henderson Kennedy waa fined £1, William John Moir 10s, Donald McLean £2, 'Walter Harper 20s, Leonard Coffee 203, Henry Smith 20s. Joseph Morley, who pleaxied that he had bought liquor for medicinal purposes, was convicted and discharged. John Tainui, a Native, waa charged 'with procuring liquor during the currency of his prohibition order, and also with taking liquor into the Maori pa at Rapaki. For tlic breach of his order he was lined 20s and costs, and for* taking liquor into the pa £5. Richard Baker was charged with drunkenness arrf disorderly couduct, and also with using obscene language on January Ist on Governor's Bay road. He' was fined £2, in , default It days' imprisonment on each charge. George Taylor was charged with being the owner of a dog which had rushed at Sydney i Ayers, thereby endangering his life. The ' Magistrate ordered that the dog be kept . under proper control, or destroyed, and that j failure to comply with the order would entail a fine of £1 a day until such timo ae the [ dog wa« under control. i "Hugh Donaghy, for-failing to provide main- , tcnance for his wife and child, was remanded . on bail to appear at Chxistcirtirch on Tueai day- [ Eugene le Pare and Louis Devran, two t French seamen, for whom Mr Malaquin acted . as interpreter, were charged with absenting themselves without leave from the ship Duqueene. The local manager for the Union Steam Ship Company, agents for the vessel's ( owners, stated that the ship waa held up in the stream waiting for the two men. The f accused were each fined 10s and costs, and , ordered to be put aboard the ehip. j Francis M. Forward, for leaving his cart i and horse us a tttended, was fincJ 10s and costs. j Frederick Duffy, William Leiter, and Fredel rick B. Maclaine, were charged with b"ing j on licensed premises after closing hours. They . wero each fined £1 and costs. t C. F. G. M. Mills, who was charged with . supplying liouor to an intoxicated man in . th* British Hotel, was fined £3. Henry Brooker was chargc-l with going into an hotel and drinking liquor in comI nany with a prohibited perron, to wit, t Leonard Coffee. A fine o! £2 was imposed. 0 SMOKE CONCERT. 1 A smoke concert was held in the Foresters' 1 Hall, Lyttelton, on Saturday night to weis come home Bros. Loader, Radcli3e, ana Carroll, members of the Lodge just returned from the front. Chief Banger Bro. Crocker presided. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester) waa among those present. During the evening several toasts were honoured, and musiJ cal items contributed by Mom re Robertson, a Pretty, Brio tow, Thurlow, Hammel, and i J ones, Mr A. Araesen acted as musician.
