The Press Bureau reports that Earl Lvtton has ton appointed a Civil Lord of the Treasury, Mr C. A. McCurdj A! P.. Parliamentary Secretary to tho Food' Ministry, and tho Hon. Wnldor Astor Parliamentary Secretary to tJu Local Government Board. A UNIONIST SPLIT. (Router's Telegrams.) (Received January 29th, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 2.. As a result of a split in tho ranks of the Unionist Alliance, a now anti-part«-tion League has been formed, w.tn Lord Midleton as chairman. It is determined to maintain union with Croat Britain. Sixty prominent southern Irish Unionists have joined tho Loagno. STATEMENT BY ALLTAiNCE. (Australian a.nd N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received January 2t9h. 8.10 p.m.) LONDON, January 27. Lord M'dloton's anti-partition League includes twelve Irish peers. A number of large land-owners have joined the movement. The new League- considers that Ulster possesses an undue influence in Irish Unionist politics. The Alliance subsequently issued a statement denying that it favoured partition. On the contrary, its members were unalterably opposed to Homo Rule for the whole or any part of Ireland. The ''Morning Post" expects that the schism will have far-reaching consequences, and says tho seeders apparently anticipate ivnothor attempt to enforce Home Rule. Their object, in tfiat case, will be to prevont partition.
