: MR J. B. SHAW. ' (By Cablo.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) 1 (Received January 29tli, 8.10 p.m.) LONDON. January 27. • The death is announced of Mr J. Byam Shaw, tho artist. The late Mr J. Byam Shaw, A.R.W.S., was a partner in the School of Art, Campden Hill. He wa& born in Madras in 1872, and arrived in England in 1878. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1889, and his first picture, "Roso Mary," was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1889. He published many illustrated book?. » The death occurred in Sydney, on the f 19th inst., of Mr Thomas Forster Knox, r for many years a nota"ble personality in Sydney commercial circles. Nearly a year ago Mr Knox underwent a serious ■ operation, after which his health became I much weakened. He was in his 70th year. His eldest brother, Mr George j Knox, died about ten years and his surviving brothers are Mr E. AV. Knox, general manager of the Colonial Sugar , Refining * Companv, Limited, and Mr t Adrian Knox, K.C", C.M.G. Mr Knox " was for some years manager of Fhe ' Christchurch CN.Z.) branch of Messrs ! Dalgety, Blackwood, and Company, of l r Melbourne. Later he took over tho ' ioint management of the firm's Sydnev branch, which was established in 18//. I Seven years later tho firm was converted into tho present company Dalgety and Company, Ltd. —and he received 1 the appointment of managing director in Sydney. In this position he re- ' mained until October, 1912. when, on his resignation, the London directors o I the companv offered him the chairman- » ship of tho local hoard of advice.
