In * Rugby football match the Leicester Club beat the New Zealand Machine Gun Corps team from Grantham by 16 points to 5. PROPOSED ALTERATION OF RULES. (MESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 28. A special meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union has been called for Thursday, on tho requisition ol the Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland Unions, to consider proposals for amendments in the rules of the union, and the laws ol' the game. Tho proposed, alteration in the rules is aimed principally at giving the New Zealand Union power to make modifications in the laws of the same, and forward them to thi English Union. The proposed alterations in the rules are largely on the lines indicated at the time of the dispute between the NewZealand Union and the Wellington Union. A further motion deals with the rules as to professionalism, as follows"That Northern Union players, who have been on active service, or who have never received monetary payment for playing football, shall be eligible lor reinstatement, but no player over the age of 18 years at last birthday who takes part in tho Northern Union game subsequent, lo the 313t /December, 1918, shall be eligible for reinstatement." WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. (PRESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. January 28. The Wellington Rugby Union to-night briefly considered the question of the proposed ulleratior.s to the rules and laws. It was decided to ask the delegates to the New Zealand Union to support a motion to have the discussion on the proposed amendments postponed till the annual meeting of tho Union.
