i i SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS. Considerable interest i 3 already being shown in the Dominion Schools' and Intermediate Swimming Championships, which are to be held this year in Christchurch, the. dates allotted being Tuesday, Wednesday, and 'Thursday, March 'Ith, sth, and 6!h. These championships were held for the first time last year, in Wanganui, and then extended ovor two duys only, which proved to be insufficient, and therefore an extra' day has been added this year. In addition to the actual championship events, a very comprehensive programme of inter-club swimmjng, diving, and novelty events has been arranged tho Canterbury Centre, which has charge of the meeting, and everything points to the whole function proving a great success. It is anticipated that close on 40 schoolchildren from all parts of the Dominion will compete in the schools' and intermediate ■ events, and they are timed to arrive in Christchurch on March Ist and 12nd. The of the visitors lias been arranged for by a ccmmitteo of ladies, headed by Mrs 11. S. Batchelor, while a comprehensive programme of entertaiument has- been decided upon by a committee headed by Mr L. A. G. Uich, arrangements having been made to take the visiting children to Sumner, New Brighton, Cashmere Hills, Diamond Harbour, the pictures, and various other places of amusement. The Richmond Swimming Club is holding its Carnival on February Sth, and tho Yaldhurst Shield Competition is set down for February 20th, and at both of these carnivals, Canterbury's probable candidates for tho Schools' and Intermediate Championships will be seen in action. Judging by the enthusiasm that was shown at- tho Opawn Club's Carnival last week, swi: , ti:iin«; has entered into a new lease of life in CHristchurch, and large attendances at the championships aro expected.
