MEETING OK EXECUTIVE
A meeting of tllo executive committee 01 tho Returned Soldiers' Association was held last evening, Mr N. 13. McCnllum presiding 1 .
Over 100 new members were enrolled, all these nominations having como in within the past fourteen day#. "With regard to tlje employment of returned men, the secretary stated that tho problem was still acute. Since November no fewer than sixty-one men had been found employment, but there were still a very largo number on the books, including 1 many clorks. It was decided that in view of tho largo number of men who were joining l the Association, and the consequent increase ill the volume of work, there was a necessity for a clerk to assist _ihe secretary, and it was decided to advertise for one.
Various matters in reffard to transfers, separation allowance, etc., were discussed. • Mr McCallum, tho Association's lepreseutative on tho New Zealand Executive, gave a comprehensive report of tho doing® of that body, and remarked that tho executive was fully alive to the problems that were now facing the various Associations.
Mr J. Coo spoke more particularly in regard to Leeston, where, he said, it was proposed to form a branch of the Association, Mr Coe dealt at some length with the question of land settlement in the district.
It was stated that the next Dominion Conference of the. Returned Soldiers* Association would bo held at Christchurch on May 2<sth.
