"PRINTED IN GERMANY,"
As evidence that the people of Western Germany are preparing to do business with French and British, "The Times" of November 29th quotes a letter published in the "Cologne Gazette" from a Cologne firm to the local Soldiers' and Workmen's Council, asking the authorities to forbid "energetic and conciliatory business world" from trading with the occupation troops of the Entente. "It is to be expected (says the letter) that trading will take place between the Entente troops and our business world —especially in Christmas, New Year, and Easter cards, but also in letter-paper and other gifts, and that the business world may very easily be disposed to provide these goods printed in the language of our enemies or adorned with French or British national colours.
"If it is not forbidden, such articles will soon be appearing, and one trader will follow another. This would b© painful to our German sentiment, and foreigners might regard it as an expression of sympathy."
