Mrs Rutherford had anothei . yoman friend staying iu the house dur- , ing the Christmas visit. Major Sotoa , first paid visits at Rutherford's request. , There was no secrecy regarding the sub- , sequent visits. The message was produced which Rutherford wrote to his wifo after his arrest. It read: "I am sorry the worst possible has happened. Seton is dead. ' For this was substituted another reading: "I am sorry an awful thing has happened. Seton is dead." Coroner read Sirs Rutherford's letter urging c'ivorce, and offering to °, V M r , to her husband the tnr elder children, aaaing: "They will be happier with you, and will at least ftivo you some hold on life. I should not fe ®l J" 0 ", were utterly broken. This" is a difficult letter to write. Please make the rest of my task as easy as possible, for the sake of all I have borne for you."
