REPATRIATION BOARD

CANTERBURY APPOINTMENTS

(PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 27. The Repatriation Board made a number of appointments at a meeting held to-day.

Captain T. M. Charters has been appointed to be District Repatriation Officer for the Canterbury district. This is the last of the four officers for these duties to bo appointed, those for the other three districts having been announced.

The following appointments were made to the District Repatriation Board for Canterbury:— Messrs A. W. Juinieson (Industrial Association), W. Goss (Y.M.0.A.), P. Davidson (Chamber of Commerce), C. M. Hewlett (Efficiency Board), A. F. Drayton (Employers' Association), F. W. *Hobbs (War Relief Association), D. Jones (Farmers' Union), E. J. Howard (Trades and Labour Council), J. G. Miltton (Citizens' Defence Corps), H. S. J. Goodman (Second Division League), N. B. McCallum (Returned Soldiers)., W. E. Leadlcy and F. D. Eldridge (Repatriation Board). No nominations were received from the friendlv societies.

Captain T. M. Charters is a son of Mr W. W. Charters, of Beckenham, and of Messrs Kinsey and Co., and ho himself is in ill© employ of Messrs Kinsey and Co., having obtained from them leave to go to the front. Captain Charters left New Zealand in charge of the major portion of the 29th Reinforcements, and was officer commanding the troops on that particular trip of the Ruahine. He saw a considerable amount of service on the "Western front, and was eventually invalided to England in Mareh last with an injury to his hip, remaining in hospital until he was sent back to New Zealand where he arrived in October. Since then ho lias made good progress towards recovery, and received his discharge at the beginning of this month, his intention being to resume his employment with Messrs Kinsey and Co. on Monday next. Captain Charters since his return to New Zealand has been posted to the Territorials with the rank of major. In pre-war days he was officer commanding the local "C" Company. Amongst other things Cantain Charters was a wellknown and popular vocalist. Colon :1 A. B. Charters. 0.M.G., D.5.0., is a brother of Captain Charters. Colonel Charters, who went away early in the war wns first of all Bn.se Commandant in Earvpt. and was afterwards given the command of the Otago Battalion. He was twire gassed and onoe slightly wounded in France. According to the latest advices received from him., h6 was actinft-bricradier-general, and ha was temporarily in the same position previously in 1917.
