Sho stayed I much bctto: than on the first day, but was I fortunato that Retard did not got a. belter run early in the race, as he finished better tba.li anything eIGC. Fluency, a very neat nlly by Demosthenes —Lob Vegas, was whispered about as a good thing for the Fitzhcrbcrt Handicap. Sho ran a, good race into sccond place, but had no chance of beating tho top weight Affectation, who was always well up, and onqo the straight v. - as entered he took chargo to win easily. This colt is sojnewhat on the small side, but he is very shapely, and will win moro races yet. ' Rewi Poto again misbohaved at the poet, and eventually got away last iu the Wellington Racing- Club Handicap. Running up the back of the course hia rider tried to get through on tho rails, only to be sent back again last, and this probably cost him 'Jio race, as Melee only lasted long enough to win by a short length. Menclaus looked well but .is evidently off colour, as he was the first horse beaten, and finished at the tail end of the field. Ladogeur and Heathorcoto both flattered their backers two furlongs from home, when tho first-named stopped suddenly, and a mile appears to be about hia limit., lleathercote struggled on gamely, and was a good, third, with Battle Song and Mascot next, Rose Pink ran a poqr raoe. • Gloaming and Surveyor soon showed theii superiority over their opponents in tho Kelburn Plate, and before going two furlongs they wore well clear. It was then apparent that Gloaming was winning easily, and bowling along full of running, he won in hollow fashion from Surveyor, who beat the rest just aG easily as Gloaming beat him. The order of -the rest as they passed the post was Crenides, Croesus, Torfrida, and Aatir.oice. Torfrida, who is suffering from a slipped Tnueclo in her quarters, showed plenty of speed, but she could not stay the distance, and stopped before going three furlongs. Afterglow ran a good lace under her weight in the Douro Cup, and looked dangerous at tho distance post, but she then dropped, out of the struggle. Palm Oil, who won, was lucky Iff getting a run on the rails in the straight, otherwise ho could xot have won. '• Tho Metropolitan Handicap was a onehorse race. Beginning very smartly, Silver Link had her opponents in trouble before going a furlong, and she galloped home an easy winner. Acre, who was a solid favourlto, never threatened danger. Kilboyne is evidently off colour, and so is Onslaught, who finished a long way back, while Koesian i 3 not ready yet. There was nearly £10.000 invested on the Camp Handicap, Moorabbo being entrusted with a fourth of tho total. She ran a good race, but had no chance of beating Rebekah. at' the' weights. Hymarty was again very ■Srell backed, but is evidently not aa gocd aa Ghc is thought to be. i DUXEDIX J.C.'S AUTUMX MEETIXG. (FHESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLIXGTOX, January 26.
