MEETING OF EXECUTIVE
Tho Centre Executive of the Red Cress Society uiet yesterday, Mr J. A. Flesher prebiding. The chairman said that about £24,000 of the "Our Day" Fund remained at the disposal of the Centre. The financial statement showed that donations in December totalled.£267 -to, 9d nnd disbursement? £384 16s Cd? A balance of £664 Is 3d was availab\lr Beswick introduced the question of" disposing of The Red Cross Funds. He thought that tho Society should ' trv to bring its organisation to an end, I having disposed in the proper direction of all the money which was raised for Red Cross purposes. The money should not be hoarded. Mr Gresson said that the Canterbury Centre was not so financial as Auckland or "Wellington. ~ The New Zealand Council, at its meeting, would consider the best means of disposing of surplus Red Cross Funds. Mrs Boylo said that the Canterbury Centre would have a great many calls in the near future. W. T. Robinson said tlio Shop Committee would like to be advised as to the best means of using up the money it had in hand. The committee wanted an indication as to where tho raonoy could bo used to the best advantage. The chairman remarkod that after tie meeting of tlio Council, tho Centre would hivo better knowledge of what to do. It was immediately necessary to attend to the wauts of the largo numbers of wounded men who would be returning in the near future. A cablegram was received from tho Hon. It. Heaton Rhodes, as follows: "British Red Cross St. John's, New Zealand, further supplies not required. France, Italy, Serbia, in great need of clothing, for men, women, and children, also blankets and Red Cross supplies, except bandages. Serbia asks food, and suggests that if possible dircct shipments to British Red Cross Commissioner. Salonica." A remittance of £15,000 was acknowledged. It was decided to ask tho lady members of- the committco and the mombora of tlio Finance Committee to prepare a report estimating their needed expenditure for tho yoar. A letter was forwarded from Wellington, from Mrs James Macintosh Bell, appealing on behalf of the destitute Russians, who .are fleeing into Siberia, to esctvpo tlio Bolshevists. It j was decided tlmfe the matter did not coma within tlio scopo of the Red Cross Society, and that it should bo a, separato reTof fund, along tho linos of tlio Belgium Fund. A remit for the council meeting from tho women's branch, and proposed by Mrs Boylo, was approved. It was to tho effect that every school which had dono twelve months' Red Cross work should roceivo a certificate setting forth that tlio school had worked for tho Rod Cross. The following delegates were appointed to represent the Centre at tho Council meeting: Mrs Boylo, Messrs A. K. G. Rhodes, and J. A. Flesher (North Canterbury), Mr Bernard'Tripp (South Canterbury), Mr M. J. Gresson (Marlborough and Westland), Mrs Cyrus Williams (Westland), subjcct > to tho three latter districts not making other arrangements.
