THE FRENCH MISSION.

* CIVIC RECEPTION AT AUCKLAND. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 24. The Fionch Mission was accorded a civic reception in the Town Hall concert chamber. The Major, Mr J. H. Gunson. presided. Goneral Pau, in a speech of acknowledgment, said his health was quite restored. He remarked that tho League of Nations must be a league of those who had common interests and ideals, and who had fought together for right and justice. There were some who were not qualified to belong to it. Ho said that ne and his colleagues would carry awav pleasant recollections of New Zealand He had gained love and admiration for its people, and he could not find words to express what was in his heart He had admired this fertile and picturesque and, at times, uncanny country The work that had been accomplished in it by only two generations of settlers showed a wonderful state of efficiency, and if the same traditions were maintained in the future it was not hard to realise what that future would be. He would make a faithful report to the French people, who admired and lovod.the New Zealanders equally with their soldiers, and he personally wished to assure them of his own very deep feeling of estoem and affection.
