FROZEN MEAT.
THE SHIPPING OUTLOOK. Respecting the provision of tonnagu to transport the frozen meat and other produce at present in cool storage in the Dominion, the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Acting-Minister of Imperial Supplies, informed a representative of "The Press" yesterday that the latest information in his possession was that for the period from January 15th to February 19th ton steamers will be available, niul for the next month a similar number. The cool stores of the Dominion, the Minister stated, were at present fairly full, but there was 110 reason to be at nil very anxious about the prospects of the future. Asked regarding the proposals made about the eud of last year in respect of the disposal of th'e Dominion's frozen meat, which were conveyed to the frezing companies in a circular setting out the particulars, the Minister said that owing to meetings of directors of all the companies not having been held, ho had not received r*>plies from them all; but from the replies received it appeared that the proposals were not such ah met with general ncceptnnce. The position had, of course, altered since the circular wag sent out, in that the Imperial author!ties had extended the present arrangement for the purchase of frozen meat to June, 1920. "I am of opinion," added Mr Guthrie, "that in the interests of the producers we have made the best bargain for tlio Dominion, as it will mean stable finance for the next two years which, in the ordinary course of events, might hare proveit years of financial stress while the Dominion was getting back from war conditions to normal conditions."
