CANTERBURY'S HARVEST.
A PROMISING OUTLOOK
During his visit to the Ellesmere district yesterday, ilia Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, was specially interested in the crops he saw while motoring from town to Leeston and Southbridge. On jnany farms harvesting operations were in full swing, and on others .the ripened crops were ready for reaping. On the Minister's return to town he informed a representative of "The Press" that ho had been very pleased with what he iiad seen of the crops ill the Ellesmere district. "I was especially pleased," continued Mr Guthrie, "at the prospects of the wheat crop. Owing to the very wot season wo have had, many were looking forward to unsatisfactory results from atens.sown in wheat; but if what I saw to-day is a fair average of the Canterbury wheat-growing districts, then I should say that the crops, when threshed, will not fall short of the estimate of the yield made at the beginning of the season."
