OBITUARY.
The death of Mr H. Noy removes another of the rapidly-diminishing baud of old colonists. The late Mr Noy, who was 81 years of age, came to New Zealand from Cornwall at tlio age of 21 years, and, after spending about eight months at the Gabriel's Gully goldfields; joined his father in business in Auckland as general engineers. He later went to the West Coast, where he was joined by his father, and they established an engineering business, which they carried on for thirty years. The late Mr Noy settled down in Dunediu a few years ago, and was on a visit to Auckland when he passed away. He is survived hy a grown-up family, comprising Mr& A. Reid, of Auckland, Mrs T. Hughes, of Portobello, Dunedin, Mr H. Noy, inspector of machinery at \Vanganui, Mr W. 'G. Nov, of tho Union Steam Ship Company's shoro staff at Port Chalmers, and Mr E. Noy, of the Union Steam Ship Company s shore staff at Auckland. The death., of Mr "Walter Hailes took place this week at his residence, Chartlea Park. Balfour, Southland. Ho arrived in the early days "with his parents, who took' up land and settled in Kaikoura. His mother, who was a sister of the late Mr Joseph Ward, and a cousin of Archbishop Redwood, died . a lew years ago at' the age of 80. Later on Mr Hailes bought a run in Southland, and was recognised as an authority in all branches of farming. He leaves a widow (the daughter of the late Mr Francis Dunne, of Oriental Bay, W eland three childron.
